Curator’s Tour: Sarah Robayo Sheridan

Wednesday, February 11, 2015, 7-8:30pm

Part of Re-Collections: Between History and Storytelling

A program of Sign, sign, everywhere a sign

Toronto-based curator Sarah Robayo Sheridan will present a tour of her curated joint-venue exhibition Sign, sign, everywhere a sign, featuring recent acquisitions from the Hart House and University of Toronto Collections, beginning at the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery and following to UTAC. The exhibition captures the ways in which commercial graphics shape urban landscapes – whether in the proliferation of billboards and screens, the identity of nations and institutions, or the visual logic of window display. In response, artists have initiated their own symbolic studies and counter campaigns, progressively infiltrating signs and symbols to their own ends.

Following the curatorial tour, the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery and UTAC will celebrate the launch of the new publication Kelly Mark: Everything is Interesting with a reception at UTAC.
