Malcove Collection Tour with Niamh O’Laoghaire

Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 1-2pm

Dr. Lillian Malcove Ormos was a New York City psychoanalyst who was also an avid art collector. Works from the Malcove Collection are on rotating exhibition in the permanent Malcove Gallery at the University of Toronto Art Centre.

Director, Niamh O’Loaghaire will showcase some of the earliest objects in the collection including the small sculpture from the Anatolian Bronze Age (ca. 4000-2000 BC) and other ancient works including fine glassware, bronze lamps from the Greco-Roman period, and stone and bronze images of Sarapis, Isis, Cybele, and Zeus. The tour will focus on the Malcove Collection’s late-and post-Byzantine icons which form one of the most important and invaluable resources for icons and inconography research in Canada.
