28 Days: Reimagining Black History Month Panel Discussion

Saturday, February 18, 2012, 1-5pm

A program of 28 Days: Reimagining Black History Month

Co-presented by Third Space Art Projects

This panel discussion will bring together artists and curators to explore critical debates on Black culture and memorialisation in relation to artistic/exhibition practice, multiculturalism, identity politics, and institutional heritage. The program will include presentations from exhibiting artists who will address the strategies, motives, and history related to institutionalisation, performativity, and representation embedded in their respective work. This will be followed by a round-table discussion between presenters and Toronto-based exhibiting artists, which will explore exhibition practices in relation to Black History Month programming and broader issues of Afro-modernity in visual studies.

Featuring Paul Goodwin, Sonia Boyce, Dana Inkster, Robert A. Pruitt, and Camille Turner

Moderated by Rinaldo Walcott
