Fisherman’s Repose depicts my father sitting at North Lake harbour on a June afternoon, after a full day fishing lobster on the Gulf of St Lawrence, followed by raking thousands of pounds of gravel for the floor of a trap shed he soon won’t be using anymore. It’s a quiet moment for a man who has worked hard his whole life, and at sixty-nine is looking to step out of the profession he’s been in since he was thirteen. I fish with him and am also an author. The life captured here is one that factors heavily in my writing and design work.
