Mother Giant is part of a series of handwoven dream messages that explores intuitive and abstract interpretations of what has been said ‘out loud’ in my dreams. In this dream, a giant told me “Now you’ll know how it feels when the whole world is against you and you have nowhere to go.” Immersing myself in the feelings prompted by these words, I wove the word AGAINST into the cloth using doubleweave pick-up in a reverse twill weave structure. This laborious and time-consuming technique parallels the space needed to contemplate aspects of heritage, identity and selfhood, which are the root of my practice.
