As the University of Toronto Art Centre celebrates its tenth anniversary, this exhibition of selected important works of art from the University of Toronto Art Collection will bring together some of the “old favourites” in our holdings that have been owned by the University for many years. These include the watercolour of the beach at Pembroke by JMW Turner (gifted to the University in 1932 by Mrs. Augustine Fitzgerald), and a pastel drawing titled Ariadne Abandonée by Henri Fantin-LaTour (gifted to the University in a bequest by J. Edgar McAllister in 1959).
In addition, important new gifts will be displayed alongside the earlier works. One of these is a painting by Toronto artist Michael Snow from his famous Walking Woman series, donated in the year 2005 by Robert Fulford.
