Part of The Politics and Poetics of Visibility

A program of “We Are Continually Exposed to the Flashbulb of Death”: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg (1953-1996)

Tour of the Allen Ginsberg Photography Collection

The items on display in University of Toronto Art Centre’s exhibition represent a mere fraction of the almost 8,000 photographs donated to the University of Toronto by the Rossy Family Foundation. Join John Shoesmith, Outreach Librarian at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, on a tour of the Allen Ginsberg Photography Collection at the Fisher. Shoesmith will introduce visitors to photos not seen in the exhibition at University of Toronto Art Centre, including unique and intimate drug store prints of Kerouac, Burroughs and other leading Beat figures, along with never-before seen prints of Ginsberg’s friends and fellow artists. The photos also include numerous ‘selfies’ taken by Ginsberg throughout the years.

Location

Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, 120 St. George St.
