Join us for the opening reception of God of Gods: A Canadian Play and the Hart House Collection: Works on View.
For her exhibition at the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery, internationally renowned, Toronto-based artist Deanna Bowen revisits The God of Gods (1919), a play written and directed by Carroll Aikins (1888-1964), founder of the first national theatre in Canada and artistic director of Hart House Theatre (1927–29).
The Hart House Permanent Collection is a major collection of Canadian art developed by the Hart House Art Committee and administered by the Art Museum. More recently, the Art Committee expanded its collecting strategy to include a greater diversity of media as well as works by artists of increasingly diverse cultural backgrounds. Works from the Hart House Permanent Collection are on view throughout Hart House and are in constant demand for exhibitions at major museums around the world.
