Presented in partnership with the Art Museum, aabaakwad (it clears after a storm) is a unique annual Indigenous-led conversation on Indigenous art by those who create, curate, and write about it. aabaakwad is an Indigenous Arts Collective devoted to the dissemination, exhibition, promotion, and development of International Indigenous arts. aabaakwad hosts yearly gatherings of International Indigenous artists, curators, and writers in different countries.

In 2024, the event will gather over 80 Indigenous artists, curators, and writers in Toronto, Canada from Thursday, December 5 to Saturday, December 7. Everyone is welcome to aabaakwad. Engage in networking and listening to informal and in-depth dialogues that are uncensored and sovereign. aabaakwad also showcases musicians, performance artists, poets, and filmmakers through screenings, music nights, and dedicated performances.

Event highlights include Opening Keynotes by Wanda Nanibush and by Esmat Elhalaby; Closing Keynote by Jolene Rickard; talks by Mikinaak (Crystal) Migwans, Taqralik Partridge, Laakkuluk, Caroline Monnet, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Michael Belmore, Joi T. Arcand, and Hulleah Tsinhnahjinnie; and performances by Haluci Nation, Archer Pechawis, Roula Said, Timimie Marak, Kimmernaq Kjeldsen, and Ikumagailiit performance art band, and more.
