ART x AVATARS

Wednesday, June 18
6pm–7:30pm
Justina M. Barnicke Gallery
7 Hart House Circle

What are the different elements that compose you? What characters, voices, or desires live inside of you?

An avatar is a figure that represents an idea; it can give form and shape to powerful desires. In this artist-led gallery tour and workshop, participants will consider the practice of avatar creation as a method of encountering the self—in all its unknowability.

Participants will learn more about how the practice of avatar creation grounds Lina Wu’s graduating thesis project, A Sheathed Abyss, and have the opportunity to create an avatar or an alter-ego of their own.

Materials and refreshments will be provided.

Free and open to the public! Registration is recommended but not required.

About the Artist
Lina Wu is an interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto. Currently she works in figurative drawing, zines, and cartooning. Lina is invested in finding and unravelling the paradoxes inherent in constructions of sexuality, desire, and identity.

ART X AVATARS is part of ART eXchange, a free, drop-in program series offering guided tours, conversations, and creative activities that invite deeper engagement with the Art Museum’s exhibitions and collections. Curated by Drea Asibey and featuring a rotating roster of facilitators, each session fosters dialogue, reflection, and connection. Learn more and view the full schedule.
