ART x SUBVERTING THE GAZE
Wednesday, July 9, 2025
12pm–1pm
University of Toronto Art Centre
15 King’s College Circle
Join Drea Asibey, Curator of Programs, for a guided tour of Careful Crossings and Whispers of Resistance informed by feminist theory, Édouard Glissant’s concept of “opacity”, and the politics of refusal. The tour will be followed by a facilitated but informal group conversation on how selected works subvert “the gaze” to challenge the power dynamics that shape how we see ourselves, how we view others, and, in turn, how others gaze upon us.
Refreshments will be provided.
Free and open to the public! Registration is recommended but not required.
